Registration opens March 1, 2023.
Scout Day is a great way for Scouts of all ages to get hands-on horse experience, whether they've never been around horses or have years of experience! During their time on the farm, Scouts will rotate through multiple stations, which include topics like grooming, leading horses, and how DEFHR rehabilitates horses. A farm tour and riding demonstration are also on the docket.
All Scouts will get a patch for participation and completion of all stations.
Registration fee is $10.00 per Scout.
The event starts at 10:30 am, so please be sure to be at the farm and checked in NO LATER THAN 10:15am.

We are looking forward to having you and your Scout(s) here at Days End Farm Horse Rescue for a fun Scout Day on Saturday, May 20th, from 10:30am-12:30pm! Below are some things that we ask you to be aware of leading up to and during the event.
Please plan to arrive NO LATER THAN 10:15am so we have time to get everyone checked in, confirm completion of Release Forms (see below) and segregated into groups before the event begins. We will aim to start promptly at 10:30am and the event will run until 12:30pm. You are welcome to stay after the event if you’d like to have lunch on our front lawn or in our pavilion.
Let’s review how the day will go:
Parking – Please park at the old firehouse directly adjacent to our farm. The address is 1330 Woodbine Road. From the parking lot, you can walk around the front of the building and up the hill, where you will see an opening in the fence to access our front lawn. Please go to the table setup in front of the main office (white farmhouse) to check-in and receive the Scouts’ passports and badges.
Event – We will split everyone up into 5 groups and will do our best to keep troops together while still maintaining safe group numbers. Each group will rotate through 5 different stations, which will include an educational talk, farm tour, grooming, a riding demonstration and leading. The grooming and leading stations will be directly hands-on with our horses. As long as we start on time and rotate efficiently, the Scouts will have approximately 15-20 minutes to spend at each station. Scouts will be directed on where to go each time they’re instructed to rotate.
If you haven’t already done so, please ensure all Scouts and anyone attending with them have signed and submitted our Participant Release Form. As always, safety is just as important to us as your Scouts having a great experience while here. Please be aware of the following:
It is currently looking like there’s a small chance for rain on Saturday, but we all know how unpredictable Maryland weather can be! Hopefully we’ll be good to go for Scout Day. If the forecast changes for the worst, we will send an email about rescheduling no later than 5pm on May 19th. So keep an eye on your inbox.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email or call our office at info@defhr.org or 301-854-5037. We’re looking forward to seeing you this weekend!
Thank you!
