Dear Lynell,

Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors were saddened to learn of the passing of Kathy Schwartz-Howe, our organization’s co-founder and executive director for 24 years.

Schwartz-Howe, 71, of Woodbine, Maryland, peacefully passed on March 6, 2023, following a battle with Alzheimer’s.

A pioneer for equine welfare, by providing resources and education to law enforcement and animal advocates, striving to make horses accessible to the community and helping to ensure that the horse industry was a welcoming place for everyone to learn and get hands-on with these incredible animals.

Thousands of horses have her to thank for their second chances and countless people are indebted to her for her contribution to the advancement of equine welfare.

Kathy was always thinking about the horses and how she could serve the next horse in need. In honor of what Kathy tirelessly created and loved so passionately, her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, that you consider a donation to Days End Farm Horse Rescue so that her legacy may forever live on.

Gratefully Yours,

The horses and all of us at Days End Farm Horse Rescue
